[Upcoming Event] “Un Yamada x Kelantanese Traditional Music Collaboration Project”
Kuala Lumpur, October 2019 – Organized by The Japan Foundation, Kuala Lumpur together with National Academy of Arts Culture and Heritage (ASWARA) , “Un Yamada x Kelantanese Traditional Music Collaboration Project” will be happening from 16 to 28 October 2019.
Un Yamada, a choreographer and dancer who has been active both in Japan and overseas countries will collaborate with local talents Zamzuriah binti Zahari (ASWARA) as project coordinator, Kamarul Baisah Hussin (ASWARA) and Mat Din Hussin as multi-instrumentalists together with Eddin Khoo from Pusaka as advisor and moderator for the showcase and talk session.
Since Un Yamada’s first visit to Malaysia in 2012, she has been contributing the cultural exchange between Malaysia and Japan through dance by conducting workshops for students, creating a new piece with local dancers and also inviting them to perform in Japan.
This collaboration project aims to create a new dance-music piece with the theme of “Blessings for Life”, which can appeal to various audience, while strengthening and building up the network between the professionals in the fields of dance and music.
During this project, they will visit Kelantan, a state that is full of traditional performing arts, to refer Main Puteri which is the combination of dance and music as a healing method.
A showcase and talk on 26 and 27 Octoberwill be held by the project participants to share the process and results of this collaborative projects.
