CENTRAL MUSIC & ENTERTAINMENT FESTIVAL 2025 Closes International Tour with Explosive Kuala Lumpur Finale

KUALA LUMPUR, 2025 – A historic night for Malaysian ACG fans unfolded as CENTRAL MUSIC & ENTERTAINMENT FESTIVAL 2025 landed at Zepp Kuala Lumpur, bringing with it the vibrant soul of Japan’s contemporary music scene. Featuring critically acclaimed acts like ATARASHII GAKKO!Tatsuya KitaniCreepy Nuts, and Malaysia’s own enigmatic trio K.O.I, the event was more than a concert—it was a cultural celebration.

Organized as the grand finale of CENTRAL’s maiden overseas tour following a sold-out stop at Zepp New Taipei, the Kuala Lumpur show delivered on its promise of “Bringing the Sounds of Japan to the World”. From anime anthems to genre-defying performances, the festival’s four-act lineup lit up the night with authenticity, energy, and artistic brilliance.

Opening Act: K.O.I – Malaysia’s Masked Phenoms Set the Stage on Fire

As the lights dimmed, masked silhouettes appeared on stage. K.O.I, a mysterious local group known for blending alternative hip-hop with cultural motifs, opened the evening with “Meta Dermaga”. The haunting vocals of Mya Nana, echoing through the venue, sent shivers down the spines of the crowd, immediately setting a high emotional bar for the night.

Despite being the opening act, K.O.I’s performance was anything but introductory. With pulsating beats and lyrics rooted in local folklore and mysticism, they presented a sonic experience that proudly stood alongside the international names on the lineup. The second track, “Tiwikarma”, intensified the mood, while their finale, “Niskala Suaka”, ended with thunderous applause. The group’s commitment to fusing Malaysian identity with Japanese-influenced artistry was both impressive and well-received.

Tatsuya Kitani – Anime Anthem Masterclass and Musical Catharsis

Next, the spotlight turned to Tatsuya Kitani, whose reputation as an anime theme song specialist had already reached fever pitch among fans. His arrival on stage was greeted with screams of excitement, which escalated as he launched into “Scar”, the opening theme of BLEACH: Thousand-Year Blood War. The opening chords alone were enough to stir the emotions of the crowd, who sang along with fervor.

Kitani transitioned effortlessly into “Rapport”, his vocals soaring across the venue with heartfelt intensity. The blend of live band energy and his rock-inspired vocal prowess created a gripping sonic landscape. Highlights of his set included “When The Weak Go Marching In”, the emotive “Promise Me”, and the chillingly melodic “Bakeneko”.

As he performed “Zutto Issho!”, audience members were visibly moved, swaying and raising their hands in unison. He closed his set with the highly anticipated “Where Our Blue Is”, from Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2, a song that triggered a collective outpouring of emotion. Phone lights flooded the venue like stars, symbolizing a shared moment of catharsis.

ATARASHII GAKKO! – Eclectic Energy and Schoolgirl Rebellion Reimagined

Just when fans thought the night couldn’t get any wilder, the unmistakable chime of a school bell rang through the speakers. Enter ATARASHII GAKKO!, who stormed the stage dressed in their signature school uniforms layered with brightly colored yukatas. The audience erupted in excitement, welcoming back the group on their second visit to Malaysia.

They wasted no time kicking off their set with “Omakase”, followed by the viral sensation “OTONABLUE”—a TikTok-famous track that had everyone from front-row fans to balcony dwellers grooving along. The performance was a kaleidoscope of choreographed chaos and tightly executed synchronization.

Midway through their set, the girls surprised the crowd with “Arigato”, during which they playfully used broomsticks as microphone stands. Their flair for mixing comedy, dance, and vocals in a live setting demonstrated a rare form of performance art that transcends language barriers.

Their performance of “WOO! GO!” was a standout dance showcase, with each member spotlighted in powerful solos that whipped the crowd into a frenzy. Between songs, they interacted with fans in a mix of Japanese, English, and even some Bahasa Malaysia, drawing cheers and laughter. The group ended their set with “One Heart”, a soaring anthem of unity that had the entire venue waving in sync and shouting “Terima kasih!” back at them.

Creepy Nuts – The Kings of Japanese Hip-Hop Dominate the Night

Saving the most explosive act for last, Creepy Nuts—consisting of DJ Matsunaga and rapper R-Shitei—stepped on stage and wasted no time asserting their dominance. As the first beat of “Yofukashino Uta” dropped, the crowd responded with unbridled energy, drawn instantly into the pair’s dynamic chemistry.

R-Shitei’s razor-sharp flow and Matsunaga’s award-winning turntable skills made every song a masterclass in live hip-hop performance. From “Daten” to “2way nice guy”, every verse was delivered with breathless precision. DJ Matsunaga even had a solo DJ play session during “ルーティン”, earning roaring applause from the crowd.

The energy peaked during “Dandadan”, the opening theme from the anime of the same name. Halfway through the track, the duo paused and urged the crowd to shout louder—a challenge that was met with enthusiastic chants and roars, amplifying the sense of unity in the venue.

Of course, the night couldn’t end without “Bling-Bang-Bang-Born”, the viral juggernaut with over 700 million streams. As the beat dropped, Zepp KL became a human wave of bouncing bodies, closing the festival with an unforgettable bang.

Zepp Kuala Lumpur – The Unsung Hero of the Night

Throughout the night, Zepp Kuala Lumpur played a crucial role in elevating the experience. Its cutting-edge sound system allowed every lyric, riff, and drop to hit with pristine clarity, while the intimate yet dynamic space helped foster the feeling of connection between artist and audience. It was the perfect setting for a cross-cultural music event of this magnitude.

Final Thoughts – A Celebration Beyond Borders

The CENTRAL MUSIC & ENTERTAINMENT FESTIVAL 2025 in Kuala Lumpur wasn’t just the end of a tour—it was the start of something bigger. By showcasing Japan’s rising and established talents side-by-side with Malaysia’s own musical gems, CENTRAL not only highlighted sonic excellence but built bridges between audiences and cultures.

This celebration of music, movement, and mutual appreciation reminded us that borders fade when the bass drops and voices rise together.
